Since about the time before Factions was released, I've been getting first-fight lag in explorable zones/missions. Everything runs silky smooth until the first batch of monsters and my party starts casting skills, and then the FPS will drop to slideshow levels for a brief time, and then it returns to normal. This also makes my sound stutter the whole time it lags, and it does something to my ventrilo mic as well, because after one of these first-fight lag experiences, the only thing my fellow guildmates can hear from my mic is loud, annoying static. I don't know what exactly is causing it, but it happens almost all the time after I get this kind of first-fight lag, and the only way I know how to alleviate it is to reboot the computer. This isn't my ISP doing this. This isn't spyware. This isn't a fubared Windows XP install. This is GUILD WARS doing this. These are your "performance-enhancing updates" that are making it worse.
I really think whatever ANet did to change the sound from the original Prophecies sound code (I think it was either the PvE or PvP Factions beta event update where the sound started to get "tweaked") messed up something. Sound was perfectly fine before all this crap. Why did you mess with it? Now all these "tweaks" have in-game sounds and music in a horrible state. Half of the time I can't hear spells casting, I can't hear my level-up sound, etc.. Great, ANet, great.
Other than that first-fight lag, I've never experienced any other kind of lag until recently, as it seems to be getting worse and worse. Standing still in spots, rubberbanding, etc., are happening lots of the time now. ANet, you are dropping the ball big time. This game used to run perfect, but starting with the Factions PvP and PvE beta events, now the performance is getting worse and worse.

Alright, tonight I have actually been getting some uncomfortable lag in-game. I rarely get lag, unless there's a huge update that everyone's d/l at one time. Tonight, I can't explain it, though. It's not my internet before anyone jumps on that, as all pages seem to load fine, and other online games I have seem to have no lag.
How can you tell it's net lag and not video/crappy system lag? Simple. If you're moving, or in combat, or activating a skill, and then it seems like everyone just stops, stands there and just looks at each other, while your skill seems to be in a constant loop of activating, but you can still look around, that's net lag. That's what's happeneing to me. No err 7's, yet, but I think I'm just lucky there.

heh heh, indeed you are. Since the game is now unplayable for me, I'm just letting it sit idle while I browse here. I'm keeping track of how often I get DCd...so far I'm up to 12 within this hour.

I'm not saying this lag is of non-existent (as I have experienced it myself also) but I wouldn't pin it ALL on ANet as of yet.
The people that are getting bombarded with Err7s, can you guys provide some info? i.e. Location, ISP, wireless/ethernet, router? - Not that I know anything but maybe someone quite knowledgable in this area can provide some insight.
I've experienced 4-5 Err7s between Sunday and now (but I've been running some big downloads, that might've been a reason).
Location: Toronto
ISP: Rogers 6.0 MB Cable

SMC Router (I hate this router so so much)
So far the lag/Err7s I've experienced havn't been really "extreme" or anything.
I'm just suggesting we provide some useful information instead of flooding this thread with whining (not that all of you are)

I'm getting insane game lag right now playing Factions. It's completely unplayable. I've checked with my ISP for outages or other problems, I've speed tested and I've even tried other multiplayer games, none of which shows evidence the problem is on my end.
This is one of the few times I've experienced lag with GW. I noticed one other player complaining of bad lag at the same time, although we seemed to be the minority as no one else seemed to be bothered.

Everything is running 100% w/o hiccup or hitch w/ programs on protocols and ports across the board EXCEPT GUILD WARS. Until today, I've had no real issues with GW since (even commended them for it in another post). The afforementioned and the fact I can't play more than a couple minutes at a time before slowing to a halt, timing out, and greeted with an ERR7 (basically the same description given by droves of people, from different locations in the WORLD) every... single... time... for the last I don't know, 12 hours? Yeah. I think that's enough for me to "pin" this on Anet's end, sorry.
And it's not so much that this happening that I'm pissed over. I'm pissed because no one from their end is acknowledging it outside of the default cop-out tech support replies.
Hell, I'd be happier with a "[email protected] sux2bu. we're going to bed now. seacrest out" or something. Just... something. :[

I wouldn't pin it ALL on Anet....if it wasn't ONLY GW that was giving me problems...and if these problems weren't nonexistant one day and then rampant the next. Didn't anybody that blames it on hardware ever notice that droves of people end up having the exact same problems at the exact same times?
My internet is fine. Speed/packet loss tests are fine. Other online games are fine. PC is clean, defragged, maintained...

wow! the err 007 faeries sure are busy tonight!
6 err 007's in the past 10 minutes. sometimes i can't even get past the character screens.
for me i can tell when it's my own network having connection problems. In those cases I can not immediately log back into GW and have to restart the client to login again. I don't know if it's because my modem/network is renegotiating the dsl connection or because the something has to be reallocated for the client.
however, when the fault is not my end, I can immediately re-login or attempt to login to gw, even if only to get booted out via another err 7.
a lot of the time i also run ftp, http as well as other downloads and chat programs in the background and GW will run just fine. It's pretty easy to check if transfers via ftp have gone down as well when i'm hit w/ an err 7. so i pretty much always know if it's my dsl connection reseting, or some other network issue along the way.

Lag EVERYWHERE.
Seriously, I'm tired of lagging 2 into matches in HA only then to error 7'ing out. Tired of lagging all over the place, in RA, hell just even standing in town!

This issue has been going on for so long now, and it is getting worse. It seems like every time they have one of their "events" it really flares up. The first 6 months I played this game, I never experienced an err7. Tonight I had over 15 in just over 2 hours. If they don't do something about this soon, I'm not giving Anet any more of my money, thats for sure. As far as having people try to fix the problems, I have seen so many supposed know it alls give out their end all opinions, yet the extreme lag and err7s are still happening. It has been so bad the last couple times that the game is not even playable. AND STOP FREAKING TELLING ME MY PC/INTERNET/MODEM ARE CAUSING MY ISSUES!! They aren't. I can play any other game online just fine, look at web pages, whatever I want while this is happening, except play Guild Wars. If they aren't going to fix it, they should at least give us an explanation as to why it is happening. Not like it will really help or anything, but...

Ohh yeah...and the Guild Wars support network news is useless.

Calm down why are you so mad at me for sheesh -.- I just suggested that instead of complaining, posting some info might actually be better because when anyone from Anet actually looks at this thread (if they do) they won't have to read thorugh pages of posts saying similar things...
If this was happening to EVERYONE then I would completely pin this all on Anet, but it's NOT happening to everyone.. so that means it's Anet + certain ISP or locations... or something like that.
FOR THE PEOPLE THAT CAN'T COMPREHEND WHAT I'M SAYING -- I'M NOT DEFENDING THEM, THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ANET'S END.
I like what the above guy just said... 1 sentence, plain and simple.
Oh and I think the people that aren't experiencing heavy lag/Err7 bombardment should also kindaly provide some info(ISP,Router/Wireless,Location,etc.).
Goodluck to everyone, hope this lag clears up for everyone soon

just wondering what this trace means..
is there some major rerouting going on over the net?
i ran a trace to Diag.ArenaNetworks.com
which goes from the west coast -> kansas city -> new york -> bounces around NY -> Frankfurt Main -> then fails trying to reach 206-127-146-41.plaync.com
anyway, it's a lot of fun tonight, err 7's every 2-5 min while i'm chatting happily away on secureIM, browsing the net, streaming videos, etc. hopefully everything will clear up soon
damn those err 7 faeries!

I seem to be getting a fair share of lag as well, I play random arenas and usually lag out before 7 consecutives, and always lag out by 9.

I, personally, have not been having any problems. My graphics card is almost the worst thing ever in the history of the planet, so once I turned all of my settings as low as possible my lag almost completely stopped. Any trace of lag I have now I am certain is from my graphics card and nothing else.
However, things have been glitching like crazy and I am not sure this is to do with my graphics card, as it has happened today only. For example, groups of enemies have been hitting me from across the map. Not even in my range on the minimap. A guildie also was having severe issues with err 7 all day yesterday. It was happening roughly every 30 seconds-4 or 5 minutes. He was helping another guildie with Gyala Hatchery, and he err 7'd. The guildie he was helping said 5 other people in the mission err 7'd at the exact same time he did.
The same thing happened to me a couple of months ago, and when it was happening to me, it was happening to many, many other people too (they were posting about it here and every time I managed to connect back in, there were many, many unhappy people in TOA). I (we) got told at that point that it was on our end, not GW. I have a very hard time believing that.
